Hostgator Green Hosting
Hostgator put this very succinctly. Did you know that the average hosting server produces the same emissions as a 15 mpg SUV?. Not only the power used to run the server processors, and hard drive, but a significant amount of electricity is used to keep the server room cool.
As HostGator hosts over 1.8M websites on its shared and reseller servers. This results in a lot of servers, and carbon emissions. At least Hostgator are considering the climate change situation. They decided to not also minimize their environmental footprint at their office, but decided to switch to servers which were 36% more efficient.
HostGator then purchased certified “Renewable Energy Credits” representing 130% of the electricity used to both power and cool every last one of their shared and reseller servers. All of HostGator’s wind credits are generated in their home state of Texas. It wasn’t practical to build a wind farm Houston, so they did the next best thing. Investing in renewable energy close to home.
