‘Cancer’ spreading HostGators server, very disappointing experience.

I’ve been HostGator customer for a few years now. I started on gator4, but then moved to a dedicated server after a few years (you may check my profile to see my posting history here).

A few months ago I started a new website, bought the large plan. Since day one there were only problems. These were the worst of the kind – the ‘server performance’ issues. That meant the server had a cancer but nobody was/is there to diagnose it.

The biggest problem is the server’s response time is very frequently high. You can click 10 times on different page and it loads fine, but on 11th click the page loads like 10 seconds. It happens randomly so there’s no way to get any pattern.

Support doesn’t know how to fix the problem. My guess is the server is oversold or has some processes that kill the server.

To sum up, the ‘business server’ is maybe good for domain park hosting. Hosting anything else you look like an amateur fool (from your visitor’s point of view). It’s no wonder – with the ‘nolimit’ policy you share your server with monster sites that don’t care about your little website.

I don’t know what’s going on with HostGator but I’ll be requesting to move the site to another server in the hopes it doesn’t have a cancer. But I’m not too hopeful because when I visit another site on HG servers I see the same problems – sporadic but frequent outages. So my only solution may be to move away because the times when HostGator was a ‘good, reliable hosting service’ are gone. Now they only live their legend which soon will be forgotten too.

A very disappointed HostGator customer.
